Yes, it might be true that DC has a slightly smaller population than North Dakota, but they can still boast of quite some top-performing sports teams that can strongly compete. Believe it or not, the most important thing about living in D.C is being conversant with the best team in the district’s sports. Even when the residents cannot be said to have real representation at the national level (Congress), the point remains that they are still competitive out there in the field of play.

So, if you are new in the neighborhood or just visiting, and you haven’t done your homework on the district’s local teams, don’t worry because we have taken the time to gather a list for you. Check out the guide to DC’s sports scene and teams below.

1. Washington Nationals

Remember superstars like Anthony Rendon, Juan Soto, and Max Scherzer, yes, you get to see them perform in the state-of-the-art Nationals Park in Capitol Riverfront. While in the stadium, you also get to catch an appealing view of the Washington Monument and the Capitol dome. This top American professional baseball team does compete in major competitions like Major League Baseball (MLB).

The team has been playing in RFK Stadium while a new stadium was under construction between 2005 and 2007. So, in 2008, they had to officially move to Nationals Park, South Capitol Street, Southeast quadrant of DC.

2. DC United

Say hi to the most successful soccer teams in the country. You can catch their game at the RFK Stadium to get proof as to why they are tagged F.C. best soccer club in Washington. D.C. United are the four-time MLS Cup winners, and they usually play from March to October.

3. The Washington Football Team

Watch Washington play at the famous FedEx Field; normally, when Washington play, DC is covered in gold and burgundy throughout the football season. They play in the National Football League (NFL) and are three-time champions of Super Bowls (1983, 1988, and 1992), and two-time champions of NFL championships (1937 and 1942).

The Washington Football Team has one of the most energetic fan bases, which is why you always hear them cheer their team with “Hail to the Redskins” after each touchdown. But mind you, because of the loyal fan base, getting a ticket to their matches can be quite difficult, but there are still a couple of online sources to get it from if you look.

4. Washington Wizards

If you are interested in watching the Washington Wizards basketball team play, then you have to visit the Capital One Arena. Unlike the Washington Redskins, you can easily source for Washington Wizard’s game tickets because of its many options. They were the champions of the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1977 to 1978 and have produced some hall of Famers like Dennis Johnson, and Jack Sikma.

Finally, it is great coming to Washington DC, but it is even better when you recognize one of the teams. Again, getting a ticket to some of these games can be a bit tricky, but the thing is this, there is always an online platform that has a few leftovers lying around. Good luck.
